Adding value to your interview
Companies don't care that you need this job.
Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's true.
During the interview process, a company is often sifting through dozens or hundreds of candidates to eventually narrow down to ONE hire.
Wanting or needing a job is not what will get YOU picked over everyone else.
Everyone else will say the "right" things in the interview process.
"I'm hard working."
"I align with this company's values."
"I'm passionate about this work."
That sounds nice, but there's no substance.
Always remember, in the interview, it's up to YOU to show the company why you're the one they should hire.
And how do you do that?
By using tangible examples and stories of your previous experience.
SHOW, don’t tell.
Use stories that demonstrate your ability to drive solutions to the same problems that they are facing.
Use examples with strong RESULTS that show what impact you can bring to the table.
The person who gets hired is the one who shows more value or potential ROI (return on investment) than anyone else.
How to make sure that is you in four simple steps:
1. Research the company to understand their challenges or objectives.
2. Network with people at the company to understand what they are looking for from the role. Ask lots of questions.
3. Develop solutions for those problems. What ideas or strategies would you bring to the table to help the company solve those problems?
4. Use past projects or previous work experience as examples to show how you've already implemented these solutions already and achieved the results the company is looking for.
If you can do those four steps effectively, you become more than just a number in an applicant pool.
You become the ideal candidate.
It doesn't matter that you need this job.
What matters is showing the company why they can't afford to pick anyone else over you.
If you’ve been getting interviews but have not been able to crack one and land an offer, it’s possible that you’re not showcasing your value properly.
In my Ace the Interview program, I teach you how to become a finalist for the jobs you want and finally land an offer.
Here’s what we polish together:
Your elevator pitch
1 out of every 3 interviewers are going to make a decision on you within the first 90 seconds of your interview. If you’re not captivating their attention or immediately showing value, it could be over before it starts. Your elevator pitch is how you showcase your expertise and accomplishments that prove you deserve to be there.
The STAR technique for answering behavioral questions
Behavioral questions are often “make or break” for candidates. If you’re not effective at telling a story in a concise, impactful way, the interviewer’s interest in you will dissolve very quickly. Having a strong framework to use when answering complex questions will prevent you from starting every answer from scratch.
Your interview delivery with 3 mock interviews
There’s no better way to improve your interview performance than through live practice. And most companies don’t give you feedback if they reject you, so you’re constantly in the dark on how to improve. I provide both.
Best strategies for answering common interview questions
There is a right and wrong way to answer an interview question. I’ll teach you the reasoning and the thought process of an interviewer behind each question so you know what they’re looking for.
